Empowered Community is a nonprofit organization that identifies and addresses unmet needs by evolving programs to fill gaps that would otherwise be ignored. We meet with students, young adults, families, employees, small businesses, and government agencies to learn what programs and services are needed. Then, we analyze job market trends to determine where people are being left behind and resolve that through education, economic empowerment and health & fitness programs.

Position Summary
The Volunteer Director is responsible for leading the organization's volunteer program and cultivating a vibrant community of engaged individuals who share our mission of empowering people to achieve their full potential. As the Volunteer Director, you will play a central role in developing and implementing strategic initiatives to attract, recruit, train, and manage our volunteers, ensuring that they are equipped with the skills and knowledge needed to make a meaningful impact on our organization and the communities we serve.
Position Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive volunteer program that aligns with our mission, goals, and objectives
- Oversee the recruitment, screening, and onboarding of new volunteers
- Design and deliver volunteer training programs that equip volunteers with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively contribute to our organization's programs
- Manage and coordinate volunteer assignments, ensuring that volunteers are placed in roles that match their interests and skills
- Provide ongoing support and mentorship to volunteers, fostering a positive and engaging volunteer experience
- Monitor volunteer performance and provide regular feedback to volunteers
- Track volunteer hours and maintain accurate records
- Develop and implement volunteer recognition and appreciation programs
- Collaborate with staff and program directors to identify and address volunteer needs and concerns
- Stay up-to-date on volunteer management trends and best practices
- Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations related to volunteer management
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Volunteer Management, Nonprofit Management, or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in volunteer management, preferably in a nonprofit setting
- Proven track record of successfully developing and implementing volunteer programs
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Passion for volunteerism and a commitment to empowering others through volunteer engagement
- Experience with using Google Drive tools to perform as volunteer management software
- Knowledge of volunteer recruitment and retention strategies
- Experience with developing and delivering volunteer training programs
- Experience with volunteer recognition and appreciation programs
- Experience with nonprofit organizations and volunteer management practices

Must be:
- able to commit to at least 10 hours per week
- passionate about our mission, values, and empowering others
IMPORTANT: It's vital that the nonprofit has access to all tools, resources, artifacts, etc. used in this position and stored in the nonprofit's cloud. Therefore, agreed upon web-based tools in the nonprofit's name (open source, free, commercial, etc.) must be used to ensure reuse and sustainability.
