Empowered Community is a nonprofit organization that identifies and addresses unmet needs by evolving programs to fill gaps that would otherwise be ignored. We meet with students, young adults, families, employees, small businesses, and government agencies to learn what programs and services are needed. Then, we analyze job market trends to determine where people are being left behind and resolve that through education, economic empowerment and health & fitness programs.

Position Summary
The Communications & Social Media Specialist helps us spread the word about our work that uplifts the community through education, economic empowerment, and health & fitness programs. This involves giving the nonprofit a strong online presence via our website, emails, blogs and social media platforms (LinkedIn, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, X-Twitter, Threads, etc.).
Position Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a social media strategy to increase brand awareness and engagement
- Create engaging and informative social media content, including posts, images, and videos
- Manage and monitor our social media channels
- Participate in online conversations and respond to inquiries
- Track and analyze social media data to measure the effectiveness of our campaigns
- Assist with other communications tasks as needed, such as writing press releases and email newsletters
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, or a related field
- 3+ years of experience in social media management
- Strong writing and editing skills
- Proficient in social media platforms, such as LinkedIn, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, X-Twitter, Threads, etc.
- Experience with analytics tools, such as Google Analytics
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Experience in creating social media content for a diverse audience
- Experience with video editing
- Experience working with non-profit organizations is a plus
Important Notes
Reports to the Events and Campain Manager
Must be:
- able to volunteer at least 8 hours per week
- passionate about our mission, values, and empowering others
IMPORTANT: It's vital that the nonprofit has access to all tools, resources, artifacts, etc. used in this position and stored in the nonprofit's cloud. Therefore, agreed upon web-based tools in the nonprofit's name (open source, free, commercial, etc.) must be used to ensure reuse and sustainability.
